This will be my first political post since I started Unwicked. I’ll keep it short. President Bush commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby. You can read about it elsewhere. One tidbit caught my attention (thank you Crooks and Liars for pointing me to Atrios via Jane Hamsher.).
Jane Hamsher: “The dirty unwashed masses who populate our juries are fit to judge each other, but evidently not the ruling class. David Broder can breathe a sigh of relief that People Like Him are safe from those overly zealous US Attorneys who might want to hold them accountable to the same absurd standards that the little people must live by. How quaint.
“The White House has turned off their phone lines. Evidently they don’t want to hear what you think. There will still be phones tomorrow, and I don’t imagine anyone who cared enough to drop Dubya a line is going to forget.”
I called the White House comment line (202-456-1111) and the message tells the caller that the hours for the line are 9AM to 5PM. So Crooks and Liars repeats Hamsher’s inaccurate statement and leaves the impression that the White House has just up and turned off their phone instead of reporting that the line has operating hours, and Atrios called after hours (the post time was 17:46).
Hey, Left Wing Bloggers, please don’t distort simple and easily verifiable facts. It makes the rest of us liberals look dishonest.
But let’s quit nitpicking and get to the crux. Bush lied–again. What’s it going to take to finally outrage people enough where they rise up? My opinion: it’ll take doubling the cost of gasoline or cable TV; hit the sheeple where they live and they’ll likely flip out.
Attack the Bill of Rights and they’ll look at you with that vacant Cathode Ray Stare. Until you kick in their front door to arrest little Janey for using P2P and little Johnny for thinking impure thoughts.
